Firstly there are many that have there own opinions on if technology should be used within a classroom.
Secondly the 19th century educators do not feel the need to go out to workshops to get the appropriate experience or qualifications to be able to incorporate ICT’s in all schools.
Thirdly the problem that most schools have where by technology is concerned is the lack of financial aid and poor facilities to host computer labs.
What I suggest is that each school should have a policy so that each educator should sign to enable the intergration of ICT’s within the school. So that no educator will feel inferior no matter what age.
Statistics has shown that most assignments at a tertiary level is given to students via email,Google drive and Google sites etc, what I would say is that if every educator has the qualifications to use technology no learner will struggle with any basic tasks handed to them whereby the resources they require is available on the internet.
This idea that you came up with is amazing, as educators are then in a way “forced” to educate themselves on how to use technology efficiently and in the end it benefits the learners.

I agree that teachers should sign a policy regarding the integration of ICTs. This will show that teachers are interested in change. The policy should include a small fee that goes towards the fundraising for the schools technological needs. As well as the policy should state that teachers that sign it should be appointed to create fundraisers to support the schools technological needs.

True, some do believe that you do need necessarily need technology in the classroom. An teacher who has been teaching for more or less 30 years believes you do not really need technology, you just need yourself , activities and examples. Which is true because the teacher brings out the lesson, but I feel this is where technology should come in because it makes the lesson more interesting.

I agree that teachers should sign a policy regarding the enabling of ICTs at a school. I also feel this policy should include a tiny fee for the teachers who sign it to help fund general ICT programmers or ICTs in general. That those who sign the policy should also be willing to get the school involved in different ICT competitions etc.

You make a good point, it’s important for these learners to be exposed to technology especially with where we are going in the digital world. To sustain our country’s future we need to grow with the times and that starts with implementing ICTs in our schools. Teachers need to step up no matter their age, it’s to the benefit of our leaners but also our future country.

Well Said. Look, technology integration Is inevitable. It’s driven by the the 21st century digital boom and with with all things in life we have pros and cons. Reading your blog, assisted me in weighing out the options, and assisted me in moving to a more unbiased opinion. If we don’t equip our future leaders with the right tools we would be setting them up for failure in a digitally governed world. We need to improve education, before anything else in South Africa, our students are the martyrs of the future, let’s equip them first for the transformation of SA. I thank you. Very informative blog.

Well said. Just to add, the fact that within the training of Educators during their degree now, the subject “Computers in Education” is compulsory, can only aid this overall integration of ICT’s. This can only benefit the Education system as a whole. I like that your suggestions try and make the transition for older staff members as inclusive as possible.

The department of education should see to it that Ict’s are successfully implemented into schools. Many teachers doesn’t make use of Ict’s during their lessons, this is mainly because they don’t know how to work on or use these devices. Therefore, extra classes or training should be provided in order to train those teachers who aren’t very tech savvy.

I like your suggestion about schools having a policy for educators to sign in order to integrate ICT’s. This way no teacher will feel forced into something they might not want to do or agree with. And as you have mentioned, most assignments given at tertiary level are done via email, Google, etc. Thus, educators should be provided with basic skills so that those learners who aren’t able to use technology, be given the opportunity to acquire basic technological skills as well.

I really like the point you brought across. If teachers really wanted to help students they would not mind learning new methods to make learning easy for students. Yes it’s human nature to feel challenged especially when you’re use to being the source of learning but it is not always about what you want. It is always about what’s best for the students.
